Gardening in our country has a long tradition rooted in the ancestors of farmers. How many centuries people have cultivated gardens and orchards, for so many years they have resisted a large army of insects, shamelessly devouring and damaging the fruits of their hard work. Insects have dominated the Earth long before the advent of mankind thanks to truly limitless adaptive abilities. Now they quickly adapt to pesticides, so there is a need for new insecticides. Chemical preparations - Rubit and others - have shown themselves well in the fight against the bear.

Who is the bear

Medvedka is a large burrowing insect, a close relative of crickets and grasshoppers. The length of the dark brown body (excluding the whiskers) reaches 5 cm, a hard chitinous breastplate protects the head. A pair of forelimbs is similar to those of a mole, since it has a similar application - digging underground tunnels.

It is often found in the European part of Russia, prefers loose, sunny, moist soils. Almost all the time it is underground, rarely crawling to the surface, and even then at night. It hibernates in deep, up to 2 meters, burrows, loves warm compost, manure. Pay attention - exactly often travels through vegetable gardens with manure this pest.

What eats in the garden

Medvedka is a predator that eats worms and other insects. For example, when keeping bears in captivity (yes, and this happens), they eat tubers and berries poorly, but you can't drag them by the ears from chopped meat, food for fish from crustaceans.

Your saplings just interfere with their underground passage. The insect gnaws at the tender roots with its powerful mouth apparatus and moves on.

The roots of tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, cabbage, peppers, berry bushes are damaged. Tubers of carrots, beets, potatoes are disfigured by tunnels. It conducts its destructive activity from May to August... It is worth noting that odorous plants - garlic, parsley, calendula, marigolds, alder, the bear does not tolerate and bypasses.

How to deal with it

There are, relatively speaking, mechanical and chemical control measures. It is desirable to use them all at once, comprehensively, having agreed with the neighbors on an agreed "anti-bear" action. It is completely possible to exterminate the pest on the site only in 2-3 years.

How to withdraw in folk ways

Mechanical (folk) methods are based on insect life cycles.

  • Bears are known to hibernate in manure, which releases heat when decomposed. Therefore, at the beginning of August they prepare pit traps a depth of about 40 cm with ripe manure. Pests crawl there for the winter. With the arrival of the first frost, these traps are scattered, the caught bear is destroyed.
  • Sometimes the weather comes to the rescue of people. From increased dampness and humidity, bear cubs develop bacterioses and they die.
  • Along the perimeter of the site plant garlic, marigolds, stick alder pegs with bark.
  • Put in the holes with seedlings (one thing to choose from): pieces of fish (pungent rotting smell), a clove of garlic, a handful of dry marigolds or onion husks. You can spread these "goodies" along the perimeter of the beds, sprinkling with earth.
  • Potatoes will protect needles or wood ash, poured into the holes before planting the tuber.
  • Crushed eggshells with unrefined vegetable oil laid out in a shallow groove around the seedling and sprinkled with sand. From such a "treat" the pest dies.

Chemicals and poison

Chemical methods are more effective, but also more potentially dangerous than traditional ones.

Read the instructions for use of the selected drug and take precautions... Wear gloves and keep chemicals away from children and pets.

Rubit - instructions for use

"Cuts" - broad spectrum insecticide actions. Saves from a bear, fleas, ticks, locusts, bedbugs, wireworms. The active ingredient "fipronil" is relatively safe when it comes into contact with the skin, taken orally in large doses poisons the liver, kidneys, and nervous system.

Fipronil was synthesized by French chemists, came to Russia in the mid-90s and helps to remove pests with his own hands. Insects have not yet developed resistance to the insecticidal properties of the drug. "Cuts" is produced in the form of multi-colored granules, packaged in bags of 100/200/400 g.

Rubit granules of red and green color, resembling the roots and stems of plants, are impregnated with a smell that attracts the pest.

Tasty granules are poured into grooves 3 cm deep and dug at a distance of about half a meter from each other. Sprinkle with earth on top so that poultry, cats, dogs do not feast on them. You can lay the pellets directly into the pest's burrows.

The duration of the drug is approximately 15-20 days... Apply the agent before planting seedlings and after 2 weeks, then as needed. Medvedka willingly eats "Cuts" and dies after 3 hours.

Consumes chemical 300 g per weave... The drug is good because it quickly decomposes to safe compounds. Plants grown in the area treated with "Rubit" do not contain harmful components.

If the poisoned dead bear is eaten by a cat or dog, the animal may suffer.

Vofatox

"Vofatox" is another effective remedy for bear. Mix the poison with 1 kg of boiled cooled grain or steamed compound feed, add 2 tablespoons of unrefined sunflower oil.

Spread out the bait in the evening into grooves dug to a depth of 3-4 cm... The soil must be moist. Sprinkle earth on top.

Boverin

Boverin is a liquid preparation containing spores and mycelium of the Beauveria bassiana mushroom pathogenic for the bear. The spores of the fungus enter the insect's body, germinate there and release deadly toxins. Affected pests they themselves become distributors of fungal spores and infect their relatives.

Prevention of the presence of a pest

A fence made of sheet iron or old linoleum buried 50 cm underground, enclose storage areas for manure, compost, garbage.

The height of the fence should be at least 50 cm, the bear, although not high, flies.

Frequent loosening and digging of the garden destroys insect nests and passages. Fight the pest together with your neighbors on the site, this increases the likelihood of driving the pest out of your territory.

Medvedka gives gardeners a lot of trouble. Use mechanical and chemical means of destruction in combination. Till the soil in spring, summer and fall. Fence off areas with manure and compost. Pesticides will not cause harm if you follow the instructions for use and safety precautions.

How to get a bear out of the garden: real advice from experienced summer residents

Medvedka is an amazing insect that can be both harmful and beneficial at the same time.

On the one hand, digging its moves, it loosens the ground, destroys many pests living in the soil. On the other hand, it gnaws at the roots of plants and feeds on root crops.

One bear will not do much harm. But the insect is very prolific. If you do not fight it, the harm will definitely outweigh the benefit.

In order to prevent such a situation, you need to think about how to get the bear out of the garden: real advice from experienced summer residents will definitely help with this.

Sow thistle control in the garden

There are two types of sow thistle - field and garden. On the sites you can find one and the other. The weed is biennial and perennial. This is partly due to the fact that it can appear on your beds again. The plant is able to regenerate at the expense of the roots.

Fighting sow thistle in the garden requires certain knowledge. Knowing the peculiarities of the growth of this herb, you can understand how to remove it. The weed begins to grow in the spring due to the nutrients that are in its roots. If at this moment only the aboveground part of the plant is destroyed, the sow thistle will again begin to spread over the site.

  • The optimal time to kill the weed is until it has 4-5 leaves. At this point, the root system is weakened. You must try to pull out the grass along with the roots. If this is not possible, then you can simply mow the foliage every two weeks. The plant will not have enough strength for further growth, and the rhizomes will be depleted. Manual sow thistle control is the most difficult. It takes a long time to weed the area, pull out the roots. By the way, they are very developed in the sow thistle and can reach 4 m in length. In this way, you can remove the thistle in 2 years.
  • In the fall, the weed can be left alone. He will die in the frost. When digging up the earth, clods with seeds and roots should not be broken. They can spread over the area or go deep into the soil. In the latter case, this is fraught with the potential germination of the plant. It may appear again in 20 years.
  • The best time to dig up the roots of a plant is considered early spring and late autumn. It is then that it is relatively easy to pull him out of the ground. Sow thistle mowed or torn out of the soil is recommended to be destroyed. Best to burn it.

  • Another popular way to control sow thistle is with herbicides. Of course, the use of chemicals on the site is undesirable, but sometimes there is no other way to control weeds. For these purposes, many drugs are used. For example, it is diluted in 100 ml. water 10 ml. Rwandapa. The resulting solution should be greased on the leaves of the weed. The best way to do this is to use a brush. The drug has one feature: a week before and after the treatment of sow thistles, you cannot weed.
  • Similar in action and application to Tornado. In the case of using chemicals, you need to understand that they can affect other plants, the condition of the soil, groundwater and future crops.
  • There is also a more environmentally friendly way to get sow thistle out of the garden - green fertilizers. This is the name given to plants that increase the fertility of the land and reduce the activity of weeds. Their other name is siderates. These include legumes and melliferous plants (peas, beans, buckwheat, comfrey). After the flowering of these crops, the soil needs to be loosened to a depth of about 5 cm. Thus, the fertility will increase.
  • Fighting sow thistle in the garden with peas includes several stages. The peas should ripen. The pods are removed, the plant watchers are left. Then they are trampled along with weeds. Newspapers are laid on top, and foliage and tops are placed on them. The weeds and peas under the newspapers will start to rot. Because of this, beneficial bacteria will actively multiply in the soil. They improve the quality of the soil and prevent the growth of sow thistle and other weeds.
  • The same method can be used without sowing green manure. Weeds, as in the method described above, are trampled down and covered with newspapers. In both cases, rotting vegetation saturates the soil with nitrogen and nutrients, and prevents the growth of weeds.

  • Some gardeners spray sow thistle leaves with kerosene. The aboveground part of the plant withers, after which the root system also dies.

In order for the garden not to overgrow with sow thistle, it is necessary to prevent the appearance of flowers and seeds. Destroy the plant before this stage. An adult weed is quite difficult to remove - it has powerful roots.

By the way, sow thistle also has positive qualities. The garden variety can be fed to pets and even used in cooking. Soups are prepared from the leaves, they are added to salads. The roots are boiled - they taste like Jerusalem artichoke. This weed is actively used in folk medicine. It relieves inflammation, is used for hemorrhoids, jaundice, vitamin deficiency.

Sow thistle grows in almost every summer cottage. It is so common because of its unique survivability. The weed continues to grow as long as its roots are intact. That is why all methods of dealing with sow thistle in the garden are associated with the depletion and destruction of its root system. For this, hand weeding and herbicides are most often used.

How to deal with a bear?

  • Bears not only eat up the roots, but also devour the sown seeds. They especially like cucumber seeds. The insect is common in humus-rich and well-watered soils. How to deal with a bear? First of all, you need to understand that you should use as many methods as possible. The result from them will not come immediately, but after a couple of years. In this case, the insect will have to be exterminated regularly without interruption.
  • You can fight the bear by catching them and traps. Banks are dug in between the beds. They should be located slightly below ground level. Potato skins are placed on the bottom. Medvedok, caught in the banks, are destroyed. You can also catch insects using dung traps. In May, heaps of manure are scattered over the site. Bears make nests in them and lay eggs. Insects are destroyed along with their dwellings.
  • By the way, these pests love not only manure, but also rotten leaves. This is where they prefer to breed. Therefore, to prevent the spread of insects over the site, such heaps need to be arranged in one place. They should also be fenced off. For this, tin sheets are driven into the ground to a depth of 50 cm. Their height should be about 40 cm.

Scare away smells

According to the observations of gardeners, the bear avoids some odors. Therefore, they suggest:

  • plant marigolds, calendula or chrysanthemums in the aisles of vegetable crops
  • spread out between the potato beds (after flowering) branches of conifers (spruce, pine, fir)
  • stick freshly cut stakes or branches of aspen or alder with a thickness of 2-4 cm into the ground of the beds (always with bark). It is recommended to stick such stakes to a depth of 25-30 cm, at a distance of 1.5-2 m from each other, and change them as they dry

Try to scare the bear off with smells

  • water the "marked with holes" places in the garden with infusion of onion husks and onion waste
  • when planting seedlings, throw a clove or a little crushed garlic into the prepared hole
  • put fresh fish in the holes for planting vegetable crops, which, when decomposed, will give a frightening smell
  • make large furrows along the perimeter of the greenhouses, into which to pour naphthalene or kerosene-soaked sand
  • when sowing seeds of parsley, beets, carrots and other root crops, water the furrows with water with the addition of iodine. It is recommended to add 20 drops of iodine to 10 liters of water.

Each of the "scented" methods have their supporters and opponents - depending on the results of their own use or feedback from neighbors. What will be the result on your site, only personal experience will show.

If folk methods do not help, you can always use ready-made tools, the choice of which you will find in our market. A selection of Remedies for a bear.

Bait

In a summer cottage, it is easy to make baits to destroy earth crawfish using different cereals. Poison (boric acid, insecticides) is added to cereals as active ingredients.

  • parboiled grain (corn, wheat) + Metaphos
  • steamed peas (1-1.5 kg) + Regent preparation (ampoule)
  • 0.5-1 kg of porridge (buckwheat, barley, oatmeal) + Parachute preparation (ampoule)
  • crumb of black bread + sulfur of matches.

The baits are scattered in the aisles in the beds, under the plants, laid out in the holes of the pest.

On a note! To attract a bear for a smell, add a couple of tablespoons of unrefined vegetable oil to porridge or steamed grain.

It is necessary to use such baits carefully, not allowing pets, chickens, geese, ducks to enter the site.

How to effectively remove a bear from the garden

The insect is large enough, so mechanical methods of dealing with it are one of the most effective.

Mechanical methods

How to catch a bear in the garden? All effective traps exploit the insect's basic cravings: love of warmth and sweetness.

  1. In the spring, when it is still cold, they dig holes about 40 cm deep in different parts of the garden. They are filled with fresh manure and covered with a piece of old board. Bears crawl to a warm place, where they are caught, and the traps are checked every three days.
  2. The jar is filled with a sweet liquid: a solution of honey or sugar syrup, without adding a little to the end. Attracted by the sweetness, the bears drown.
  3. Beer also attracts them. The beer bottle should be dug in obliquely. Leave a little beer at the bottom. The trap works in the same way as in the previous case.
  4. A good remedy for a bear in the garden is to pour their moves with a solution of soap or washing powder, and dishwashing detergent is also suitable. The soap film can clog the spiracles of pests, so they crawl to the surface. The vegetable oil film works in the same way.
  5. Rice or pearl barley porridge can also serve as bait. The holes with it need to be covered with something from the light. You need to collect insects very quickly, otherwise they will hide.

When collecting a bear, you need to be careful. The insect is not only able to bite, defending itself, it releases a stream of black fluid from the anal glands, which has a disgusting odor.

Chemicals

Not everyone is able to collect these insects by hand.

For them, and in the event that mechanical methods have not rid the site of pests in 3 years, chemical means have been invented to combat the bear in the garden.

They must be used with caution - most of them are strong poisons, unsafe not only for humans, but also for animals and birds. How to poison a bear in the garden?

How to poison a bear in the garden?

Medvetox. Granules of this drug are buried near the pests, immersing them 5 cm into the ground. The drug attracts the bear with its taste and smell, but is deadly poisonous for them. It works for 4 weeks, without dissolving from watering or rain. The consumption of the drug is small.

Grizzly. Its action is similar to Medvetox. It is also effective against larvae.

Thunder. The granular preparation is used in the same way as the previous two. Valid for 2 weeks
Phenaxin Plus. Another granular substance with a protective effect up to 3 weeks.

Bankcol. It is not a specific drug against the bear. Its spectrum of action is all coleopteran pests. The suspension is sprayed on the soil, and the powder is embedded in the ground. It is a mildly hazardous substance.

Boverin. This remedy is also slightly dangerous for humans, since it is created on the basis of fungal spores. Its spectrum of action is very wide, its efficiency is up to 80%.

Allergy sufferers need to work with it carefully.

Not everyone is a proponent of chemicals.

They have to look for an alternative: if a bear appeared in the garden, how to get rid of folk remedies?

Traditional methods

Most of the folk methods of dealing with a bear are based on the peculiarities of her behavior. This is how mechanical methods work.

You can drive an insect out of the garden with the help of various strong-smelling agents. Medvedka is very sensitive to odors and does not tolerate some of them.

  1. Salmon from a bear in the garden is used quite often. Its pungent smell not only scares off the pest, but also dislikes many gardeners. The ammonia evaporates quickly, so the treatment will have to be repeated frequently. The aggressive environment that is created at the same time is not good for the plants.
  2. Experienced gardeners advise adding crushed eggshells mixed with a small amount of vegetable oil to the soil when planting. The benefit here is twofold: the shell and the bear will scare away and the soil will enrich with calcium.
  3. Pests do not like the smell of garlic and kerosene. Both, in small quantities, can be dispersed over the beds.
  4. You can use onion skins or small pieces of fish as a deterrent, which, by the way, will be a source of easily digestible phosphorus. Fish in tomato and potato beds is especially useful.

In order not to waste energy and money on removing pests, it is necessary to create conditions under which they will be uncomfortable in the beds.
