If you love bright summer colours in your garden, the strawflower is definitely the plant for you and the best thing of all is that this Aussie is also very easy-going. The strawflower is a somewhat herbaceous beauty from the Aster family which does well in borders and beds, but can also enhance containers and pots thanks to its compact size. Depending on the variety, the plant will be between 25 and 50cm tall. The strawflower is native to Australia, where the plant can survive almost anywhere, up to and including desert soil. The species from which the garden plant is descended was created in around in Germany from cuttings from Australia. The plant blooms most lavishly from June to September, and continues flowering until the first night frost.

Ruby Cluster Strawflower features showy clusters of white star-shaped flowers with yellow centers at the ends of the stems from late spring to early summer, which emerge from distinctive red flower buds.

Its attractive tomentose narrow leaves remain silver in colour throughout the year. The fruit is not ornamentally significant. Ruby Cluster Strawflower is an herbaceous evergreen perennial with a mounded form. It brings an extremely fine and delicate texture to the garden composition and should be used to full effect. This plant will require occasional maintenance and upkeep, and should only be pruned after flowering to avoid removing any of the current season's flowers.
