In order to increase the vase life as well as quality of leaves of goldenrod Solidago canadesis , the effect of 8-hydroxyquinoline sulphate 8-HQS , silver thiosulphate STS and l-methylcyclopropene l-MCP were investigated. The treatment of STS was used by putting the flower bases at 0. Except the treatment of l -MCP in water, the chemical treatments, which were used, led to the increase vase of life of leaves as well as to the inflorescence of cut solidago spikes compared to the control. The best treatment in this concern was 8-HQS at ppm without sucrose, which resulted in longest vase life of leaves as well as inflorescences and lowest percent loss of fresh weight of initial. Water Garden in a Vase Workshop

Horticultural items are displayed in a vase which includes a base for supporting the lower ends of stems of the items at locations spaced from the vertical axis of the vase assembly, and a retainer ring supported exclusively on the stems for holding the stems together in intersecting relationship in an area which is substantially smaller than the area of the base and is spaced above the base and substantially centered on the central axis of the vase assembly. The lower portions of the stems converge upwardly to form a tripod made of stems which support each other and the retainer, with the upper portions of the stems diverging upwardly away from the retainer. A display of horticultural items is prepared by binding the items together by placing a ring around the stems, inclining the stems relatively to each other so the stems diverge from each other in directions leading away from the ring, and inserting the lower ends of the stems in a vessel which prevents the splaying of their lower ends. The present invention relates to a vase and to a method for making a display of horticultural items such as cut flowers or greenery. Various types of vessels have been used to display horticultural items such as flowers to achieve pleasing, decorative effects. Indeed flower vases as a general matter have probably been known since prehistoric times. Other than providing a decorative appearance, a suitable flower vase should provide a basin for holding water or nutrients needed to maintain the flowers in an attractive condition and support their stems at a generally upstanding orientation.

Using lake rushes tule create your own vase or wine bottle carrying basket. We will discuss the harvesting and preparation of rush which is a traditional European basket material. We will be using a mold to weave over, and participants will have the choice of including different open and closed weave patterns such as variations of plaiting, twill and twining and cross warp. This basket has a handle for carrying but it can also be designed to be a flower vase without handle. Either way rush is a lovely material to weave with.

Humic acid and cultivar effects on growth, yield, vase life, and corm characteristics of gladiolus. Gladiolus Gladiolus grandiflorus L. However, its quality production is badly affected by non-uniform sprouting, poor crop stand, and old cultivars. To overcome these problems, an experiment was conducted to elucidate the effect of humic acid HA applied along with NPK and five exotic cultivars of gladiolus, 'Eminence', 'Cantate', 'Essential', 'Corveira' and 'Fado', on uniform crop stand, growth, flowering, and quality of cut gladiolus. Among HA treatments, three applications of HA and NPK, applied at planting, 3-leaf, and 6-leaf stages of plant development, followed by two applications of HA and NPK, applied at planting and 3-leaf stage, proved best for early and uniform sprouting, more foliage growth per plant, greater leaf area, and total leaf chlorophyll contents, earlier spike emergence, greater number of florets per spike, longer stems and spikes, and greater diameter of a spike, higher flower quality, longer vase life, higher number of cormels per clump, and greater cormel diameter and weight. Plants grown without HA and NPK application control or application of NPK alone, applied at planting, had poor growth, reduced yield, and inferior quality. Among cultivars, 'Fado' performed best for commercial cultivation, considering the applications of HA. Key words: Cormel production, cut flowers, Gladiolus grandiflorus, humic substances, nutrition.

Two cultivars of tulip Tulipa gesneriana L. In both cultivars of plants, it was confirmed that trehalose-feeding enhanced longevity of the vase life significantly at room temperature. Additionally, mechanisms of prolonging the vase life with trehalose-fed flowers were studied by comparing the water states in the zone of elongation of tulip tepals when their growth rates were modified with different treatments. In the elongating region of tulip tepals, cell elongation rates were linearly correlated to sizes of the growth-induced water potential regardless of treatments. It was found that trehalose-feeding reduced the hydraulic conductance, resulting in a decrease in cell elongation rates. Also, trehalose helped to maintain turgor of tepal cells for longer periods.
